As American Family Care marks a successful season of growth, the largest urgent care provider in the state of Alabama and one of the largest in the United States with more than 143 clinics in operation, will open the doors to its new, expanded headquarters this month.
With the acquisition of Trinity Medical Contractors and Doctors Express over the past few years, the company saw its growth outpace its space, leading to a search for a new permanent location. Formerly located at 2147 Riverchase Rd. in Hoover, the new corporate offices at 3700 Cahaba Beach Rd. in Birmingham will open to the public on February 23rd.
"We continue to move our model of quality health care forward into the future," said Dr. Bruce Irwin, CEO and founder of American Family Care. "As we expand with new clinics and new opportunities, we want to keep our employees and services housed in an environment that will allow us to continue to serve our patients and offer the best health care possible."
AFC's capital investment in the project is over $4.7 million. The new building has over 35,000 square feet and is designed for AFC's 180 employees with space for up to 250 and will house the health care provider's executive, IT, marketing, human resources, occupational medicine, purchasing, provider relations, claims processing and customer service departments. It will also include DBI Properties and a central lab.
Also making its home in the new offices will be AFC/Doctors Express. In 2013, AFC acquired Doctors Express, the largest national urgent care franchise, creating AFC/Doctors Express brands across the country. With 84 clinics the acquisition made American Family Care the nation's second largest privately owned urgent care operator.
